Chicago's Golden Voice
Mae Ya Carter Ryan has a singing voice unlike any other for a 23 year old. She is a self- taught vocal and musical prodigy, producing unique arrangements and often ingenious versions of most songs she performs. Be it jazz, gospel, R&B, pop, blues or classical, Mae Ya’s signature soulful tone and tal- ent are undeniable. She has clearly been here before.Having grown up in a home with jazz lovers, Mae Ya was 4 and 1⁄2 when she started listening to musical leg- ends like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Mahalia Jackson and more. At age seven Mae Ya announced to her mother that she would like to take vocal lessons. Unaware of her daughter’s powerful talent, her mother put off signing up for voice training right away. It wasn’t until she overheard Mae Ya singing in the house and couldn’t believe her ears that she understood the gift her daughter possessed. Mae Ya has been performing, she has appeared on network news programs such as WGN’s Morning Show, CBS’s Someone You Should Know segment, WCIU’s You and Me This Morning, ABC’s Heart and Soul, and WTTW PBS. She has appeared on cable television shows such as the Ovation Network’s Young Marvels (a 10 week series featuring child prodigies), Hall Mark’s Home and Family Show, and others.
